How do I use my Color-Go-Round Thread Carousel with Cross-wound thread?

1. Set a spool of thread over a pin of the carousel.
2. Insert the thread through the eye of the upper wire guide. Pull out enough thread to reach the base of the carousel.
3. Continue with additional spools, but always distribute them uniformly to keep the carousel in balance.
4. Thread the machine with the first thread to be sewn. When finished, cut it so that it dangles to the base of the carousel, as before. Caution: Leaving the thread longer than this can invite tangling in the machine's balance wheel, which could lead to expensive repairs.

How do I use my Color-Go-Round Thread Carousel with Non-crosswound thread?

1. Locate the nick in one end of the spool that prevents unraveling when the thread is stored. Drop a woolen washer (at least one came with your machine) and then the spool over a pin of the carousel, being careful to place the nicked end up. Caution: Failure to place the nicked end up could cause needle breakage.
2. Do not leave any thread dangling and do not use the upper wire guide. Thread the machine directly from the spool as if it were the vertical spool pin of the machine. The spool will rotate when feeding thread, just as it would if using the machine's vertical spool pin.
3. When finished, cut or rewind the thread so that it does not hang below the base of the carousel.

My thread keeps escaping from the upperguide, how do I prevent that?

If your thread is very stiff or kinky, it may tend to escape from the upperguide through the tiny gap. This can be prevented by closing the gap with hot melt glue or a small piece of tape. Our Thread Spool Caps tend to eliminate this problem.

Another solution suggested by a customer is to lay a CD or DVD on top of the carousel. This keeps the kinks from curling over the top of the thread guides.

I bought the caps to help with puddling but they won't stay on because the spool pin is too short.

Thread manufacturers are constantly coming out with different sizes and shapes of spools. We made the spool pins on our new L8C carousel 1/2 inch longer than on our previous models (S10A, L8A, L10A, L10B). However, you may still have the problem if you are using very tall spools. Fortunately, there is an easy solution. Find soda straws that will fit over the spool pin but inside the top hole of the cap. Cut the straws at least one-half inch longer than the height of your tallest spool and insert them over the carousel spool pins. Be sure to cut the straws with sharp scissors so no burrs remain to catch the thread.

I don't have a spool pin for my machine. Can I use your BWA (Bobbin Winder Adapter) as a base for the L8C carousel?

If your machine has a vertical bobbin winder stem, the BWA (Bobbin Winder Adapter) will fit over it. The BWA raises the carousel an inch higher than any standard spool pin. It was designed this way because many machines have a recessed bobbin winder stem. Many such machines also have a top door that exposes the bobbin winder when open. Since the carousel is six inches in diameter, if the distance from your bobbin winder stem to the door is less than three inches you will need to remove the door if you use the BWA. Please note: The Base page lists models that do need a BWA, but you can order a BWA by clicking on the cart for any listed machine model since we only make one model of BWA.
